On March 31, 2012, Justin Baxter was selected as the first-ever head coach of the Bryn Athyn College men’s basketball team. As he heads into his sixth season as the Lions’ head coach in 2018-19, Baxter has built a program from scratch into one that is starting to make noise in the Division III landscape.
Before taking his first head coaching position, Baxter was an assistant coach for four years at the collegiate level. He served as an assistant coach at Division II University of the Sciences for the 2011-12 season. Baxter brought in seven recruits, including three-time Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference player of the year and two-time All-American Garret Kerr. From 2009 through 2011, Baxter was an assistant coach at Neumann University. He successfully recruited 12 players in his two years with the Knights. Neumann won 32 games and made two appearances the Colonial States Athletic Conference, reaching the final in 2011.
Baxter started his coaching career at Pennsbury High School, where he was an assistant coach for six seasons. Pennsbury posted a 138- 37 overall record, won five Suburban One League championships, and qualified for four state playoff tournaments.
In the off-season, Baxter works for Hoop Group basketball camps. Hoop Group host camps and tournaments for high school athletes to get instruction, competition and college exposure on the East Coast. Baxter has performed many roles for the Hoop Group such as camp coach, camp commissioner, and tournament site director.
