Bryn Athyn College Rocks to Honor Sherri Rumer Cooper

Through multiple iterations and 14 years, Bryn Athyn College Rocks has been playing crowd-pleasing fundraising concerts on its eponymous campus. The band—composed of students, faculty, and alumni of the College—have put their musical talents to work, raising money for a number of specific needs at the College. But no cause has been as near and dear to the band’s heart than the one it seeks to raise money for this October—the Sherri Rumer Cooper Research Fund.

The Sherri Rumer Cooper Research Fund honors the vision and legacy of Sherri Cooper, Ph.D., by supporting undergraduate research at Bryn Athyn College. Cooper joined the faculty at Bryn Athyn College in 1999, after establishing an impressive record of paleoecology research at the University of Maryland, Johns Hopkins University, and Duke University. At Bryn Athyn, Cooper taught courses in biology, ecology, botany, limnology, and environmental science, and mentored many students through their undergraduate research projects. Since her passing, the Sherri Rumer Cooper Research Fund honors her dedication to faculty-mentored undergraduate research and continues the work she began.

“Sherri was a beloved member of the Bryn Athyn College community,” says Fredrik Bryntesson, Ph.D., a colleague of Cooper’s in the biology department and leader of BAC Rocks. “We felt compelled to honor her and to support undergraduate research, which is something she was so passionate about.”

BAC Rocks will play three concerts featuring well-known classic rock songs in support of the Cooper Research Fund: 9 p.m. on October 13, 10 p.m. on October 14, and 3 p.m. on October 16. Tickets for these events can be purchased at www.mitchellcenter.info.

The concerts take place during the 2016 Charter Day Weekend—the College’s largest alumni event of the year. For more information about Charter Day, visit www.brynathyn.edu/charterday.
