David C. Leach Announced as New Director of Athletics

David Leach headshotBryn Athyn, Pa. – David Leach has been selected as the new Director of Athletics at Bryn Athyn College and his appointment will go into effect July 1. The announcement was made Wednesday by College President Brian Blair.

“I’m thrilled to come to Bryn Athyn College and am grateful for the opportunity to work with President Brian Blair, Dean Suzanne Nelson, and the outstanding coaches and student-athletes on this beautiful campus,” said Leach. “My family and I very much look forward to joining the Bryn Athyn College community.”

Leach succeeds Abraham Joseph, who served as interim AD during the 2018-19 academic year.

A 25-year veteran in collegiate athletic/recreation administration, Leach was most recently the Senior Associate Director of Athletics for Recreation and Wellness at the University of Pennsylvania for two years.

“As Dean of Students, I’m very excited about the depth and breadth of experience that Dave brings to the position, and his passion for mentoring coaches and working with student-athletes,” said Dr. Nelson.

“We are pleased to have Dave join our staff,” stated Blair. “I believe that his vast experience in athletics will help to broaden the student-athlete experience here at Bryn Athyn College.”

At Penn, Leach oversaw a recreation program that sponsored 37 club sports and had approximately 1,500 student participants; a staff of 21 full-time professionals and over 250 part-time employees; and the operations for the Pottruck and Fox Fitness Centers, the Hecht Tennis Center, and the Ringe Squash Facility.

Prior to his arrival at Penn, Leach spent nearly 11 years at Princeton University as the Senior Associate Director of Athletics for Campus Recreation. Leach ran a recreation program that consisted of 38 club sports, approximately 1,110 participants, a group fitness program that had over 100 classes, and an eight-week summer day camp.

In 1995, Leach was hired by Saint Joseph’s University as the Director of Recreation and later elevated to Assistant Athletic Director. He was in charge of the intramural program, the University’s sports clubs, instructional programming, outdoor recreation, Sports Complex facilities, and varsity game/event operations.

Leach began his professional career in 1991 at Temple University as the intramural coordinator, where he worked in both the Athletic and Recreation Services Departments.

“I look forward to helping athletics contribute to the vibrancy of student life on the Bryn Athyn campus, and serve as a rallying point for our wonderful faculty, staff, and alumni,” remarked Leach.

Leach earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1990 and a master’s degree in education in 1993 from Temple University and attended the Penn Athletics Wharton Leadership Academy in 2017. While at Princeton, he was a Mathey College Fellow and made an honorary member of Princeton University’s Class of 2017.

Leach resides in Yardley, Pennsylvania, where he has been a volunteer on the Yardley Borough Parks and Recreation Board. Leach and his wife Kristen are the proud parents of three children.
