July 6 | Tap with Robyn Watson

Explore the fundamentals of tap dance through rhythm work and combinations. The basics will come alive as the combinations take root and students explore the connections between rhythm, motion, and sound.

Robyn Watson is a native of Philadelphia and began dancing at the age of 5. She has had the opportunity to perform with noted artists in the discipline including, Dianne Walker, Germaine Ingram, Savion Glover and the legendary Mabel Lee. Robyn was featured in the May/June 2005 issue of Dance Spirit Maga- zine as one of the “20 Hot Tappers, 20 and Under.” Watson received her BA in Theater from Temple University. She recently served as the tap instructor for the broadway sensation “Shuffle Along.” For the past seven years she has had the opportunity to work and study under the direction of Savion Glover.

July 13 | Modern Dance with Janet Pilla Marini

With a focus on the Humphrey/Limón style, explore the initiation of movement from breath in the torso as well as the human emotions created by the play of fall and recovery as the body alternatively gives in to and resists gravity.

Janet Pilla Marini received her BFA in Musical Theater from Syracuse University and her MFA in Dance from Temple University. She toured nationally and internationally as a soloist of Ann Vachon/Dance Conduit for 12 years, and was
a member of Jeanne Ruddy Dance for 12 years as well. In addition to teaching Limón technique and repertory in the U.S. and abroad, Ms. Pilla has been an adjunct faculty member at Drexel University, Bryn Mawr College, The University of the Arts, Arcadia University, and Temple University. Ms. Pilla is the recipient of a 2009 Dance Advance grant for the research, reconstruction and performance of a 1963 Pauline Koner solo. She is also an associate artistic director and company member of Gwendolyn Bye/Dancefusion.

July 20 | Musical Theatre Dance with Danielle Tucci-Juraga

Learn original Broadway choreography from shows such as Hamilton and Newsies in this high-energy class. This class will focus on how to portray character and intention through choreography and performance.

Danielle Tucci-Juraga is a member of the Dance Educators of America, SAG-AFTRA, and Actors Equity. She has worked on a number of touring and live productions, as well as in television and film. Some of these projects include: Sesame Street at Madison Square Garden, Sesame Street Live, The Magic School Bus Live and Disney Cruise Lines, Silver Linings Playbook, Hairspray Live, and choreography at NBC-10 Philadelphia. She is a guest-teaching artist at the Bucks County Playhouse and choreographer for Waist Watchers the Musical. Dani owns/ operates the Downstage Center Dance Studio.

July 27 | Contemporary Dance with Patrick O’Brien

A series of cardio-based arm warmups an tactile floor exercises are utilized to inform the body’s connection with the earth. Improvisational prompts will be given to allow exploration of artistic freedom. Challenging contemporary choreography is taught to cultivate the expansion of mind-body connections.

Patrick O’Brien began his dance training in Bakersfield, CA before moving to New York in 2012 to attend The Joffrey Ballet School where he graduated as part of the Joffrey Concert Group. He is currently dancing for Gabrielle Lamb’s Pigeonwing Dance and Nimbus Dance Works. Patrick has presented works of his own choreography in the New York area at The Brooklyn Museum, The Hudson Guild Theatre, Dixon Place, The Royal Theatre (Producers’s Club), Socrates Sculpture Park, Manhattan Movement & Arts Center, Earl Mosley’s Intensive of the Arts, DeBaun Performing Arts Center, Green Space, and LaGuardia Performing Arts Center. He has also presented works in Honolulu, Hawaii, and in his hometown in California.
